Towns

• Each combat screen grid can be a different terrain with associated bonuses and negatives for Hero Classes/Creatures.
• Hero Classes can participate in combat; they can move attack defend and retaliate just like creatures!
• Combatants can face in 8 different directions on the Combat Screen.
• In siege combat Creatures at the base of a town wall can attack defenders at the top of a wall and vice-versa!

Adventure Map

• More than 300 Adventure Map structures to interact with.
• Resource mines appear in multiple states: undeveloped resource deposit working mine abandoned mine (guarded by creatures) and run-out mine (no longer producing resources).
• New "Fog of War" map effect: clear for recently explored terrain gray in areas visited in the past and black for areas not yet visited.
• Watch out for Wandering Monsters. If they find any of your armies and they think they can take them out prepare for battle!
• Creature stacks controlled by the player will run away if overpowered join your army if they feel like it or fight.
• Hero Classes Creatures and Armies
• Each player can control up to 8 armies each consisting of up to 7 individual hero-characters and/or troops of creatures!
• 11 starting Hero Classes each with two starting skills (Barbarians have 3) and 37 advanced Hero Classes. 9 Hero Primary Skills each with 3 associated Secondary Skills (27 total).

• Hero-characters and creatures have similar stats: Damage Hit Points Speed Movement Spell Points Shots Luck and Morale.

• Six campaigns featuring 22 maps between them following the adventures of five Heroes who attempt to bring an end to the chaos caused by the Mad Wizard Hexis.
• 21 single player scenario maps including 3 allied maps.
• Five Heroes all of whom have their own Campaign:  Agraynel the Bard Bohb the Archmage Kozuss the Wizard Alita Eventide the Dark Priest and Dogwoggle the Barbarian.
• Eight adventure map objects make their appearances five Conservatories of Magic (one for each alignment) and two Coliseums (one Might and one Magic) where your hero fights on his/her lonesome against a Black Dragon or a Faerie Dragon respectively.  There is also a hidden Dark Castle the stronghold of the Mad Wizard Hexis.
• 16 artifacts Ring of Light Cloak of Darkness Tiger Armour Tiger Helm Frost Hammer Harmonic Chainmail Necklace of the Muses Aiffe's Mandolin Flame of Chaos Ice Scales Necklace of Balance Archmage's hat Staff of Disruption Wayfaring Boots Ring of Flares and the Angelfeather Cloak.  These artifacts correspond to the heroes and in the right combination grant the Hero a unique ability.
• Four creatures make their debut (without their accompanying adventure map dwellings) aligned with the towns of Asylum Academy Death and Nature.  The Goblin Knight  is a level 3 Chaos walker the Evil Sorceress is a level 4 Order spellcaster the Gargantuan is a levle 4 Natur shooter and the Dark Champion is a level 4 Death walker.

Heroes of Might and Magic IV:  Winds of War

The players assumes a similar role in the Winds of War Campaigns as they did inThe Gathering Storm.  Instead of a mutual villain there is a mutual goalamong five heroes - to control the kingdom of Channon by capturing its capitalcity Rylos.  Each Hero has different motives for desiring control ofChannon and hail from five different areas correlated to five alignmentsChaos Death Might Nature and Death.

• Six Campaigns featured 16 maps between them telling the tales of five heroes who thirst for the control of the kingdom of Channon.
• 23 single player scenario maps featuring 4 allied maps.
• An additional 20 maps created by the fans of Heroes of Might and Magic
• Five Heroes make their appearances in their own Campaign: Mongo the Barbarian (Might) Mysterio the Magnificent the Battle Mage (Order) Erutan Revol the Beastmaster (Nature) Baron von Tarkin the Dark Lord (Death) and Spazz Maticus the Witch King (Chaos).
• 6 adventure map dwellings are included to facilitate the four creatures added in The Gathering Storm expansion in addition to the two more for the Winds of War expansion.  There is no Megadragon dwelling.  
• Three creatures for your destructive pleasure: the Megadragon a level 4 Chaos walker the Catapult a level 4 Life shooter and the Frenzied Gnasher a level 4 Might walker.
• Three abilities linked to the Megadragon (Arc Breath Attack) and the Catapult (Siege Capable and Greek Fire).
• The Campaign Editor includes the 'find object' function copy and paste of text and the biggest addition allowing the mapmaker to make his or her own custom 'brushes' by setting parameters of various types of landscape and adventure map objects to create a distinctive landscape.
